....our closer blowing the lead.

....a .168 utility infielder hitting for the pitcher in extra innings.

....a .183 career backup catcher hitting in the #4 hole due to a double switch.

don't forget about in spite of our manager having such a short leash too. For the life of me, I can not figure out why he pulled Dave Williams after 5 2/3 when he had only given up 3 hits. With the way Dave has been struggling, I think it was necessary to leave him in as long as possible. Dave has lost confidence. How is it going to build his confidence up if he is pulled after pitching a near perfect game?

I screamed when I saw Lowe was coming into the game. I was surprised Lowe came into the game and didn't give up a run, or a hit scoring a run. Seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if he hasn't left a game without a run being scored since early May.

I also thought Mac had an extremely short leash. I'm just glad it didn't matter in the end.

Oh yeah, a good win last night despite being called a AAA team by the Chicago beat writers, nevermind the fact the Pirates were 3.5 games ahead of the Cubs before last night's game. :hmm:

you're right.. it didn't hurt anything, as far as the game is concerned... but, I think it could have done something to hurt dave WIlliams. Obviously, it may not have, but it is still always a possibility.

Did anyone notice how well Ron Villone has pitched out of the bullpen?? Since going there, he has a 2.58 ERA, I believe it is.

I would at least hope Williams wasn't hurt by coming out after 5 2/3 IP. If that bothers him, his mental makeup is pretty bad.

Villone historically has been better in the bullpen, so those numbers are not too surprising.

I guess it is not it hurting his psyche that I was concerned with. Rather, I think it was a wasted opportunity to LIFT his mental state more than anything.

By the time I post this, and you read it, you may already have heard that Dave has a slight shoulder problem that he revealed to Mac after the start previous to the one to which everyone is referring. They decided that 80 to 85 pitches would be his limit, and after striking out what turned out to be the last batter he faced, he had thrown 80 pitches.
