MIAMI (AP) -- Aaron Boone homered for the third time in two games, sparking a five-run first inning as the Cincinnati Reds earned an 8-2 victory Wednesday night over the Florida Marlins. ADVERTISEMENT

Boone, who homered twice Tuesday -- including the go-ahead shot in the 11th inning -- hit a three-run home run in the first inning Wednesday as the Reds jumped to a 5-0 lead.

The Marlins lost for the 10th time in 14 games and dropped below .500 for the first time since May 1.

Cincinnati starter Joey Hamilton worked six scoreless innings in his second start since returning from a hamstring injury that forced him to the disabled list. Hamilton (3-2) allowed five hits and won for the first time since May 1.

Marlins starter Josh Beckett (2-3) had the shortest outing of his career, working one-plus inning before leaving with Florida trailing 6-0. Beckett, who has been the Marlins' most consistent pitcher, allowed seven runs on eight hits.

The Reds batted around in the first inning. Todd Walker and Juan Encarnacion opened with singles, and Sean Casey delivered an RBI double. Adam Dunn singled home Encarnacion to make it 2-0, and Boone's three-run shot to center gave the Reds a five-run lead.

Beckett was pulled before recording an out in the second inning. He allowed a leadoff walk to Walker and consecutive singles to Encarnacion and Casey as the Reds took a 6-0 lead.

Michael Tejera finished the inning, but not before giving up an RBI double to Dunn.

Dunn was 3-for-4, including a pair of doubles and two RBIs.

Florida's Luis Castillo extended his hitting streak to 17, the longest active streak in the major leagues, with a first-inning single.

Charles Johnson homered off Luis Pineda in the seventh for Florida's firstrun, and Kevin Millar's RBI double made it 7-2 in the eighth inning.
