I think that the players will need to get more mature

they need a center. but then again, so does every other team in the East. Except for Indy. we have a good one :)

I pointed this out in another post, but they need an inside offensive force. Not necessarily a center, as m_w stated everyone in the East needs one, but one like Karl Malone, Kevin McHale, Adrian Dantley, etc... Someone who can post people up and get points in the paint. This would open up floor space for Boston's perimeter game.
A faster, better passing point guard would also help. Anderson isn't quite good enough. The C's need someone who can find the hot shooter, drive to the goal, lead the team in transition, hit jumpers when called on, just do all the things you expect from a quality point guard. I believe good passing is like hitting, it seems to be contagious. The Celtics could really use better ball movement. Just too many guys standing outside the arc waiting for the ball. A good point guard would help get some people to move off the ball.
Yes, maturity is an issue, too. I am hoping that Pierce and Walker have learned something about keeping your mouth shut and something about Celtic history. Quite frankly, if Walker I would be willing to trade Walker to acquire one of the things I mentioned above. I like the guy, but just too many players on this team have the same type of game.

Yeah, Anderson was the only one to show up yesterday, but I think the Celtics need to upgrade that position. As for Walker he is not an inside force. He is a jump shooter who occasionally attempts to beat someone off the dribble. Posting up is not is strength.

Walker is not a legimate inside force. He can post up too, but he is a jumpshooter.

yeah, but he's not like an Anthony Mason, or a Shaquille O'Neal. Those guys are big guys who predominantly post up. they don't shoot jumpers, but they have a real good inside game which (especially in the case of Shaq) can draw double teams and free up thier teammates. Walker will post up, but he doesn't live in the paint like Mase and Shaq because he has a very good outside game. He doesn't have the body of a strong PF/C like Mase and Shaq either.

Unfortunatley for the Celtics, they really don't have very much to work with this summer. They aren't going to have much cap room so it's very unlikely that they will be players in the free agent market and they won't have a first round pick in this years entry draft; as they traded it along with Milt Palacio, Joe Johnson, and Randy Brown to Phoenix for Tony Delk and Rodney Rogers at the trade deadline.
One option they do have, however, is the trade market. And one of the leagues best point guards in Andre Miller is on the block this summer. I'd sure love to see him in Celtic green; like he should have been four years ago.
I agree with what you said about Walker, Trots. I like the guy, I think he's a very good player, but if the price is right, I would have no problem trading him. The Celtics have plenty of guys that can shoot the three; some of which that can do it better than 'Toine. If the Celts could get someone like an Elton Brand for 'Toine, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

ff, I'd love Miller or Brand. I'm just not sure Antoine would bring us either.

I'm looking forward to seeing how Omar Cook does in the summer league. He could turn out to be a great player for the Celtics. He needs to improve his shooting, but the way he plays is very reminiscent of Jason Kidd.

The Celtics offense really needs to be improved upon. I cannot even begin to explain how frustrating it was for me to watch the NJ series and see the NJ players moving without the ball and trying to create something, while the Celtics all stood around on offense, mostly out past and three point line. For the most part, we have the players to run an uptempo offensive scheme, but choose not too and instead settle for the three. Very frustrating.
I really can't see the Celtics going out and making too many changes this offseason, other than bringing in Omar Cook and their European guard Josip Sesar. Their free agents are:
Mark Blount
Walter McCarty
Rodney Rogers
Roshown McLeod (option)
Erick Strickland
I think they'll let Blount and McCarty walk, re-sign Rogers, decline McLeod's option, and look closely at Strickland. I think in the end, though, they'll end up not re-signing Strick because with Omar Cook and Josip Sesar hopefully making the team, the backcourt is going to be very clogged.

Wow, all the Antwoin bashing. I love the guy. He hustles his ass off, and IMO is a better all-around player than Pierce.
So he talks? So what? He has matured drastically since last year. At least he doesn't beat his wife, or kill his limo driver, or sing anti-women rap songs.
Antwoin has done an incredible amount of work for kids in Boston. In fact, he will be at a graduation service in front of my office this week. It's a project that gets at-risk-youth, and young adults high school diplomas. He has donated a lot of funding to them.

pp, don't confuse our willingness to unload Walker as bashing. He is a fine player. An all-star caliber player. However, to me, he and Pierce are about the same player. Only Pierce is younger and imo a bit more consistent. Pierce won't be traded and that leaves 'Toine as the only player of real value. (I'm glad to hear how involved in the community he is.)
I'd love to win a title with 'Toine, but I think the Celtics need to improve this off-season and a trade is one possibility. The other being an unexpected improvement and contribution from someone already on the roster.
If the Celts could win a title with the roster the way it's constructed now, I'd be fine with that. I just don't know if they can.

Gotcha Trots. Oh, the Celts need help, no doubt. I just get annoyed sometimes. People in Boston always bash Twoin for talking, and they forget their biggest hero Bird was the biggest trash-talker in the history of the NBA.:)

Yes, but Larry kept it on the court. He didn't share every insult with the media. That's my only complaint about 'Toine and Pierce's smack. They feel the need to badmouth their opponents to anyone/everyone with a microphone or notepad. That looks especially bad when you cannot back up your words. Again, that wasn't as much a problem for #33.

Bird was a trash talker?

Bird was a huge trash talker. He could put opponents in tears.
