Count 'em, nine left fielders Colorado Rockies manager Buddy Bell has used in his starting lineup this year. The ninth will be Robin Jennings, tonight when the Rockies open a two-game series against the San Francisco Giants at Pacific Bell Park. Jennings was called up after the Rockies' 3-2 loss to Oakland on Tuesday to replace Jacob Cruz, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained hamstring.
Jennings, who was acquired with catcher Sal Fasano three weeks ago from the A's in exchange for Ron Gant, has hit .303 with seven homers and 29 RBIs in 48 games combined at Triple-A Sacramento and Colorado Springs.
The other Rockies left fielders, with the number of games they started at that position: Gant (48), Todd Hollandsworth (17), Cruz (13), Greg Norton (7), Terry Shumpert (3), Brooks Kieschnick (2), Kimera Bartee (2), and Cliff Brumbaugh (1).
