View Full Version : All Star Voting Is A Joke

Armondo Rios has more votes than Brian Giles? Roberto Alomar is leading NL second basemen? Moises Alou is fifth in NL OF voting? Alomar and Alou clubs draw more fans who vote at games but how do you explain Rios over Giles?

It sure is a joke, but what else is new? It's been a joke for years.

Usually, the fan voting in all the sports is pretty bad, except for the NFL for some reason. I wish I could say it was because a lot of young people vote, but obviously there are at least as many and probably more people over 18 voting.
Didn't Anfernee Hardaway get voted as a starter in the NBA one year despite having played in only game so far that season because of an injury?
ALL the sports need to let the players and coaches vote also. At least the coach picks the pitchers. That keeps it from getting too ridiculous.
Giles should be voted onto the team, but I suppose I'm dreaming. He's one of the best freaking players in all the league, and he can't beat out his hobbled teammate. These are sad times.

One thing is for sure--it's not fans in other cities voting for Rios. It's got to be Pittsburgh fans. Why would they do that to Giles?

Has anyone noticed that we potentially could end up with more all-stars on the team than we have in years?? Think about it... We all know that Giles belongs there.... I don't see how you can leave Mike Williams off... and then there is Kip Wells who is quietly becoming one of the top pitchers in the league.

Fogg has a decent shot too.

I have been thinking about how many all stars we could end up with. I definitely think that we are going to have 3.
I don't know about 4. The only position player that will make it is Giles, and I don't think they will pick 3 pitchers from our team. It will probably end up being Giles, Williams, and either Fogg or Kip. Right now, it looks like Kip, but you never know.

Floyd, you missed what changeup was saying. He is saying that the people who are voting for Rios, have to be Pirate fans. Aside from Pirate fans, who knows anything about or even CARES about Armando Rios? The point changeup is making is that it is a disgrace, that the Pittsburgh fans who are voting for Rios, are actually voting for Rios over Giles.
And he's right.

oh well i really dont like hte all star game anyways. Even I as a Met fan knows that only on met player (non pitcher) may deserve to be there. and thats Alfonzo. Not Alomar or Ordonez who is like #3 ii think right now...

When I voted I didn't vote for Alomar or Alou I voted for Giles to be truthful the only Mets I voted for were Fonzie and Mike:biggrin:

I've heard a couple of theories on this now . . . one is that someone or a group of people are stuffing the ballots to get someone screwy in there. Didn't this happen a few years ago with someone else?
Also, there was a report on the radio that the sites are wrong, and that Rios' name is where Giles' is supposed to be.

The most recent ballot stuffing I remember was last year with (presumably) the Japanese and the Mariners'. David Bell was leading at one point at third base, and it became so bad he said if he was elected to start, he wouldn't go to the game. Dan Wilson, I think, was second for a long time in catchers.
