View Full Version : Can we end the Bronson Arroyo experiment?

He stinks, plain and simple. He'll never be a good pitcher.
Trade him for anything and let someone else take his spot. He's pitched close to 50 games and has not impressed yet.

I think we need to give him more of a chance than one start. Bronson is just NOW at the stage in his development where he should be getting his major league shot. Dude was rushed BIG TIME. He put up excellent numbers at AAA this season. I think he deserves a chance.

I think he has been given a chance. He's had 26 starts. And he hasn't had many good starts, maybe 5.
I do agree he was rushed, but not big time. He's 25 years old. A prospect who is brought up normally makes his debut at around 24. When Bronson was 24, he had a 5-7 record with a 5.09 ERA.
What Arroyo did in AAA against players like Chris Pritchett, Ryan Radmonovich, etc. doesn't mean anything to be facing Berkman, Alou, Bagwell, Sosa, Drew, Pujols, Sexson, etc. if he's going to be a good major league pitcher. Virtually all of the players in the majors do belong there, and the same can't be said about the players in AAA.
If Bronson had good stuff, I'd be more than willing to give him a chance. But he consistently throws 85-88 (as a fastball), has a bad breaking ball, can't locate his pitches, and consequently is always hit well. That type of pitcher will never be successfull whether he has 26 starts, 46 starts, or 66 starts.

according to Lanny, this was only a spot start and Arroyo was sent back to Nashville today. Sort of worries me a bit though. I am afraid that Villone will move back to the rotation.

Or maybe Sean Lowe. Arroyo was pitching on three days rest. His outing was indicative of a nibbler who wasn't hitting his spots. When that happens it's just like BP for the other team.

Bob and lanny seem to think that Joe Biemel will get a start on Friday.

Apparently Mike Lincoln has taken Arroyo's spot on the roster, it's good to see Mike back, I just hope they don't start all that talk about putting him in the rotation again.

Beimel is now in, but I'm very happy to see Mike Lincoln back. The fact that he was ever demoted is embarrassing.
As for Arroyo, I have to say I agree with Josh. I do think he was rushed, but when I watch him pitch, I just don't see much there. He doesnt' have very good stuff. I hope that I'm wrong, it's not like I'm rooting against him, but the man doesn't have it.

Arroyo is a righthanded Denny Neagle without the command. He nibbles here and nibbles there and anything near the plate is grooved into an extra base hit.
