SAN FRANCISCO, California (Reuters) - Barry Bonds hit a towering blast in the seventh inning, his 19th homer of the season and 586th of his career, as the Giants romped to a 9-2 win over the Colorado Rockies in National League play on Sunday.

Bonds is now tied with Frank Robinson for fourth spot on the all-time list.

Benito Santiago also homered for the Giants, his blow coming in the first off loser John Thomson (6-4).

Jason Schmidt (1-1) picked up the win on seven innings of work, during which he fanned nine, and helped the Giants avoid a series sweep at the hands of the Rockies.
