Fans Told to Evacuate Camden Yards

BALTIMORE (AP) -- The Baltimore Orioles were forced to postpone Wednesday night's game against the Texas Rangers because of a train derailment in the vicinity of Camden Yards.
The game was scheduled to be the second half of a day-night doubleheader, but was postponed as heavy, black smoke billowed above Oriole Park 90 minutes before the scheduled 7:05 p.m. start. The game will be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader on Thursday.
The ballpark was evacuated after the train carrying hazardous materials derailed in a tunnel that runs about one mile north from the Camden Yards sports complex. The chemicals included hydrochloric acid, fire officials said. Two firefighters were hospitalized with chest pains.
Fans who attended the first game, won by Texas 6-4, had already left the ballpark long before players and other ballpark employees were evacuated. The smell of the smoke reached the stadium bowl as the final stages of the evacuation were in progress.
Some stadium parking lots were blocked off by the fire department, leaving some workers and members of the media waiting to get out.
Later in the night, state highway officials closed all major roadways into the city.
