JEREMY GUTHRIE
RHP, Stanford, 6-1, 195, 23
Went to BYU as freshman and then went on Morman mission to Spain, where he didn't pick up a baseball for two years. Transferred to Stanford and has developed into next in line of Cardinal aces. Is 11-1 with a 2.34 ERA and 119 strikeouts in 134 1-3 innings through regionals. Came back to school after getting drafted in third round by Pittsburgh last year. A bulldog who logs lots of innings -- including 13-inning win over Cal State Fullerton in regionals -- and has fastball that hits 90-94 mph and excellent command of four pitches.

Large build, athletic frame. Body similar to Travis Fryman. Quick bat with good extension through zone. Line-drive hitter with power. Patient hitter. Above-average arm. Good actions in field. Soft, smooth hands. Smart, confident player, consistent. Likes spotlight. Good work habits, good competitor.

Medium frame. Strong hands. Thick legs. Build similar to Eric Chavez. Slightly wide, straight away stance. Has hand speed and mechanics to hit. Stays inside ball well. Able to go the other way. Throws carry, hands catch the ball. Skills also suited for second base.

RHP VILLANOVA U 6'3" 195 21
Large frame. Strong, durable build. Long arms and legs. Build similar to Kevin Brown. No wind-up, 3/4 release. Loose, fluid arm. Fastball tails and sinks, especially when down in zone. Curveball has 3/4 rotation, occasional late, sharp bite. Strong change-up sinks and tails late. Live arm, effortless thrower with compact, polished delivery.

Tall, lean, wiry build with some upper-body strength. Body like Chipper Jones. Swings bat aggressively. Makes contact and utilizes all fields. Makes the play at 3B. Former shortstop.

Broad shoulders, large chest. Strong arms and legs, similar to Anaheim's Darin Erstad. Slight uppercut stroke with good carry. Average home run and pull power. Good hitting approach.

Tall, very lean. Loose, long arms. Good pitcher's frame. Long-armed with average fastball. Works down and away. Makings of curve with occasional quick, tight rotation. Will throw change off fastball and curve. Stays ahead in count, hits corners. Aggressive.
