Rangers Select....Drew Meyer

The Rangers used their first round pick, the tenth overall selection, to draft shortstop Drew Meyer from the University of South Carolina:

Scouting report:
Medium frame, stocky, compact build. Well-developed, especially lower half. Strong hands. Body similar to Denny Hocking. Can hit to all fields. Sure-hands.

Meyer, who stands at 5-foot-10 and weighs 185 pounds, is hitting .379 with six home runs, five triples and 36 RBIs in 66 games for the Gamecocks. He boasts a .543 slugging percentage, .427 on-base percentage and has 36 stolen bases in 49 attempts.

So far in the draft, Texas has selected eight pitchers, six infielders, two outfielders, and two catchers. The club selected 15 players from four-year universities and junior colleges and three high school seniors.

The Rangers lost all thier 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round picks due to signing Chan Ho, Juan, Van Poppel....all the crap we got this summer that has done nothing to better this club. So we screwed ourselves in the draft too. What a waste!!:flush:

I dunno I think I would have taken Jeremy Guthrie from Stanford. But I think this Drew Meyer is a player so we'll see. I like his versatilty, he can play second, short, and center. I also like the idea of him being a base stealing threat, sounds to me like a future leadoff hitter. All I know is next year we better have some more picks to work with. I mean I'd trade Juan and Chan Ho Park for a 3rd round pick or so but not Todd Van Poppel. :hmm:
