INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- The Indianapolis Indians, the Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, signed catcher Sal Fasano as a free agent Thursday.
Fasano, who played 252 games over six seasons in the major leagues, started the season at Triple-A Durham, in the Tampa Bay Devil Rays organization. He hit .257 with six home runs and nine RBIs in 31 games. The Bulls released the 31-year-old at his request at the end of May.
Fasano made his major-league debut with Kansas City in 1996 and played in the majors with Oakland and Colorado. Fasano has a .216 career batting average in the majors with 30 home runs and 95 RBIs. He is a .264 hitter in the minors.
Catcher Lance Burkhart was assigned to Double-A Huntsville to make room for Fasano.
Burkhart batted .145 in 27 games for the Indians this season.
In other moves, the Indians released right-handed pitcher Ryan Glynn and activated right-hander Joe Strong from the disabled list. Glynn compiled a 3-6 record in 12 games this season. Strong (0-0) pitched 19 1-3 innings in 15 games before going on the disabled list with an ingrown toenail May 30.
