Go Oklahoma! I think Oklahoma State could be in the top 40 as well. In two years I think they could crack the top 25, they had a real strong recruiting year.

Lol... SI picked Oregon St. to win it all last year... they didn't even get into a bowl game, they had a losing season...

And its college football, floyd. Not "college bb" but maybe that was a typo.

Where's Pitt? 35th? Man, if PSU sucks, how bad is Pitt?

**** on Pitt. ;)

There is a pretty good reason why Pitt is ranked at #35. Quite simply, they don't know who their QB is yet. But heck, these rankings don't mean a thing. Schools have barely ended spring practices yet. No one knows anything about these teams...

The only reason I did the P-E-N-N S-T sucks is because that is a cheer you will hear at every PItt games. Wether they are playing Kent State, or Penn State. That is just how things work here. Heck, even in the 8 years which we didn't even play each other, you still heard it daily.

Oh, they definitely don't mean a thing. Two things I guarantee you of: Nebraska is not #10, and PSU will be in the Top 25 at the end of the year. These kinds of polls are just for good discussion.

I think that Pitt could end up as a top 25 team. But, there are a lot of questions to be answered. Mostly, where will the offense come from. We don't know who the QB will be. The running backs are all only sophomores. We lost two of the top receivers in the Big East. BUT, the guyswho should be steppinginto those spots, do have some experience too, so things should be ok.

PSU's defense will be our biggest problem.

Offense won't be a problem at all. 28 points isn't out of the question. We could lead the B10 in team scoring. Mills and the three Johnsons are really fun to watch. There's also a redshirt freshman QB who will run some trick plays.

If the defense holds up, 9-2 is a realistic goal, but probably closer to 8-3. If the defense doesn't hold up, it looks like a 7-4 or 6-5 season.

I think our defense should be our strength. Then again, the defense let us down big time the first 1/2 of last season, so who knows. Considering that Walt harris wants to turn Pittsburgh into Wide Receiver U, I don't think the offense will be a problem. The problem will be the QB position. Rob Rutherford has been supposed to be being groomed to be the QB next season, but he was quite unimpressive last season. He is great at running the option, and has a strong arm, but not very accurate. It is enough to drive a person crazy. He has been compared a lot to Michael Vick though. That is promising, but not for a team which wants to throw the ball.

Personally, I would much rather give the ball to Tyler Palko. Although a true freshman, I am impressed with what he did in the spring.

Surfing the web, I found a two more pre-season top tens to review.

Athlon's:
1) Florida State
2) Texas
3) Miami
4) Tennessee
5) Oklahoma
6) Washington
7) LSU
8) Colorado
9) Michigan
10) Florida

Street and Smith's
1) Texas
2) Miami
3) Oklahoma
4) Florida Stae
5) Tennessee
6) Georgia
7) Colorado
8) Florida
9) Oregon
10) Nebraska

Just about everyone's top five is similar, after that there's a wide variety of opinions. MizeMan11, I think OU is The Sporting News pres-season number one, but I couldn't find their poll on their site.

I'm suprised Michigan State is rated so low. They've got the best QB in the Big ten, and arguably the best Receiver in the league. If Duckett would of come back, i'm sure they'd be a top 10 team. And why is Michigan rated so high???

I completely agree with your assessment of the Spartans, #1. State was 11th or 12th in one of those polls, I can't recall which, and I would consider that an accurate rating.

As for the why the Wolverines are rated so highly, Michigan is Michigan. Tradition does infleunce voters, particularly in the pre-season, hence UM's ranking. I don't view them as a top ten team, either. They do, however, have all season to prove me wrong.
