From Gary Washburn on MLB.com:

On Mighty Mel Mora:

Responsible for giving Lopez the early lead was utility man Melvin Mora, who cranked two solo homers off Ashby; it was the first multi-homer game of his Major League career.

Mora now has seven homers, tying his career best which he set last season.

"I have been learning tips from [third baseman] Tony Batista," he said. "He shows me a few things about hitting for power. But that is not me to hit a lot of home runs."

Mora is an impressive physical specimen, and Orioles hitting coach Terry Crowley said he is capable of hitting for more power.

"I am not worried about Melvin trying to hit more home runs after tonight," he said. "Melvin is a smart player and a good hitter. I think he can hit more homers, and he will. But he has a nice, level swing, and he knows his game is spreading the ball to all fields."

And some other notes:

GAME NOTES

Brian Roberts delivered his first home run of the season and has hit safely in his past seven games with an at-bat. ... Julio has picked up two consecutive saves after a tough stretch of three blown saves in three weeks. ... Singleton had two doubles and is hitting .352 (32-for-91) in his past 24 games. ... The Dodgers' run in the ninth inning Friday was their first against the Orioles since Game 1 of the 1966 World Series, a span of 41 innings.

Mel Mora is a great utility guy who can hit .270 and 15-20 HR's with 70-80 RBI if he gets the chance to play everyday. Why wouldnt you want this guy on your team? He can play 5 different positions and can steal a base too! However, if you really want to make a playoff run, you don't want a guy like Mora to be starting for you, IMHO. I think we should hold on to him but we should be able to get a better alternative in the leadoff spot and in the outfield.

Kudos to Brian Roberts, he has not made so many errors this season. I hope he's in Baltimore to stay this time!

Chris Singleton has played good lately... that was a smart pick-up by Syd Thrift.
