SEATTLE - It won't be the real thing, but reliever Flash Gordon may take another giant step forward in his rehab next week.
The Cubs plan on having Gordon meet them Monday in Houston. If all goes well, Gordon may throw a simulated game at Minute Maid Park (the new name of Enron/Astros Field) on Wednesday.
"We'll kind of go from there," manager Don Baylor said Friday. "I'd like to see him throw in person, see how he's doing, see how he responds."
Gordon has not pitched against major-leaguers since March 5, when he tore a muscle in his right shoulder during a Cactus League game against the White Sox in Mesa, Ariz. He has made good progress in his rehab, but Baylor isn't sure when he'll be able to rejoin the Cubs' active roster.
"I don't know what his stamina is," Baylor said. "He had just a brief spring training. So I don't know how long it's going to take. He could be on the fast track. It could be three weeks."
