ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Ken Griffey Jr. wasn't in Cincinnati's starting lineup for the third straight game Monday because of a strained right hamstring.
Reds Manager Bob Boone said Griffey might be available as a pinch-hitter against the Texas Rangers, but that the earliest the outfielder would start a game would be Wednesday in the finale of the three-game series. Boone decided against using Griffey as the designated hitter.
After the series, the Reds have a day off before playing Pittsburgh on Friday.
Griffey was hurt last Friday night in the Reds' 4-3 loss at Anaheim while running out a ground ball. That came just two weeks after he came off the disabled list following a 41-game absence due to a torn tendon in his right knee.
