ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -- Jared Sandberg did something his famous uncle never did.
Sandberg homered twice in a nine-run fifth inning as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 11-2 on Tuesday night.
After the game, Sandberg, Ryne Sandberg's nephew, was asked if he remembered hitting two homers in an inning before.
''Maybe in a Wiffle ball game,'' Sandberg said. ''It's a dream, especially to do it in a major league baseball game. It's pretty amazing.''
Both homers easily cleared the wall, traveling 414 feet to left and 407 feet to left center respectively. Both came on first pitches up in the strike zone.

''It's good to be aggressive on the first pitch,'' Sandberg said. ''Especially when they put it up there.''
Sandberg broke a 2-all tie with a leadoff homer off Omar Daal (4-3). He later hit a three-run shot off Giovanni Carrara with one out.
The crowd of 11,416 gave Sandberg a standing ovation while he rounded the bases on his second blast. He also got a lengthy ovation before his final at-bat two innings later.
''It's tough enough to think about two homers in one game,'' Sandberg said. ''But two homers in one inning is unbelievable.''
It was the first multihomer game for the nephew of the former Chicago Cubs' star. Ryne Sandberg never went deep twice in one inning.
Jared Sandberg became the 16th AL player to homer twice in an inning, and the third this season. Seattle's Bret Boone and Mike Cameron did it in the first inning May 2 against the Chicago White Sox.
''It's great to be a part of history,'' Sandberg said. ''It really hasn't hit me yet.''
The feat has been accomplished 42 times -- by 39 different players -- in major league history.
Joe Kennedy (4-5) allowed two runs and six hits in his second complete game of the season. The left-hander didn't walk a batter and struck out four.
''Joe gave us a good outing, and that made everything possible,'' manager Hal McRae said.
Kennedy's other complete game came May 21 in a 1-0 shutout over Seattle. That was the first time a Devil Rays' starter went the distance in 195 games.
The Devil Rays sent 13 batters to the plate in the fifth. The nine runs were the second most during one inning in franchise history. Tampa Bay scored 11 runs in an inning on May 28, 2000 against Seattle.
Daal gave up nine runs and eight hits in 4 1-3 innings. The left-hander has lost his last three starts.
''I didn't feel 100 percent,'' Daal said. ''My shoulder has been sore a little bit. I thought it was a tight shoulder.''
Randy Winn also homered for the Devil Rays, who won for just third time in 12 games. Winn went 3-for-4, and came within a triple of hitting for the cycle.
Winn left after six innings as a precautionary measure. He has been bothered by left hamstring tightness.
Paul Lo Duca had a two-run double for the Dodgers, who lost for the sixth time in 19 games.
Winn hit his second leadoff homer in three games to put the Devil Rays up 1-0 in the first inning. He has 10 hits in 13 at bats -- including eight extra-base hits -- over the past three games.
The eight extra-base hits over three games tied an AL record held by Alex Rodriguez (April 18-20, 1998) and Chicago's Earl Sheeley (May 20-22, 1926).
Tampa Bay tied it at 2-all in the bottom half when Aubrey Huff hit a bases-loaded sacrifice fly.
Nine of the first 10 Tampa Bay batters reached base in the fifth inning. Huff, John Flaherty, Chris Gomez and Russ Johnson had RBI single. Brent Abernathy drove in a run with a squeeze bunt.
