NEW YORK -- Steve Smith won the NBA's Sportsmanship Award on Wednesday, becoming the third player from the San Antonio Spurs to be chosen for the honor.

Smith won over P.J. Brown of the Hornets, followed by LaPhonso Ellis of the Miami Heat and Shawn Marion of the Phoenix Suns.

San Antonio's David Robinson won the award last year, while former Spur Avery Johnson took the honor for the 1997-98 season.

Smith received 65 of 126 votes from the a panel of national media members. Each team nominated one of its players.

Smith said he will donate his $25,000 prize to Reading is Fundamental Inc.
