The hottest team in baseball visits San Francisco this weekend, though the trip won't be a long one. Crossing the Bay Bridge will be the Oakland Athletics, who have won seven straight games entering a weekend battle with the Giants.

SAN FRANCISCO -- A's fans got to see the Tim Hudson of old Friday night as he mowed through the Giants lineup for seven innings on the way to his first win since April 28. They got to see the Tim Hudson of really old when Hudson was at the plate.
Flashing the form that made him a first-team All America utility player and the SEC Player of the Year in 1997, Hudson went 1-for-2 with a walk, a double and a run scored in Oakland's 3-2 victory over the host Giants.

"We forgot to disclose our secret weapon," said A's manager Art Howe. "Mr. Hudson, offensively."

Hudson, who batted .396 with 18 homers and 95 RBIs as a senior at Auburn, has always prided himself on being able to handle the bat. He's the first to pop off when A's pitchers take batting practice, and he more than holds his own once in the cage.

"It's funny, we pitchers in the American League don't get to swing the bat very much, but I enjoy hitting," Hudson said. "I'm not saying I'm good at it, but I like to get my rips in."

Reggie Sanders along with the Giants bullpen end the Oakland A's win streak.

Though Oakland set a franchise record by playing its 12th straight game without an error, the A's became the last team to lose an interleague game this season after winning their first seven. At 57-37, the A's have baseball's best interleague record, but the Giants have a 15-13 edge in their rivalry.

After beginning his major league career with three outstanding starts, Harang was cruising until the fourth. David Bell topped a two-out single down the third-base line, and the right-hander hit Tsuyoshi Shinjo with a pitch and walked pitcher Russ Ortiz before Sanders homered to left.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- The Oakland Athletics won the Bay Bridge series without backing down from Barry Bonds -- at least until it was absolutely necessary.

Barry Zito pitched into the seventh inning for his eighth straight victory, and Adam Piatt drove in the go-ahead run as the A's beat the Giants 2-1 Sunday.

Oakland took two of three on the weekend, winning two one-run games on outstanding starts from two of its three aces. Zito (9-2) gave another impressive performance, allowing four hits and striking out five in 6 2-3 innings.

Oakland improved the majors' best interleague record to 58-37 with its eighth win in nine interleague games this season. San Francisco still holds a 15-14 edge in the rivalry between the teams, who meet again at the Coliseum in two weeks.

With losses by Seattle and Anaheim, Oakland pulled within 4½ games of the AL West-leading Mariners; the Angels are 1½ back.
