CHICAGO -- Chicago White Sox catcher Sandy Alomar Jr. went on the disabled list with a sore shoulder Wednesday night, his 10th trip to the DL in a 13-year career.

The White Sox recalled catcher Josh Paul from Triple-A Charlotte.

Chicago optioned right-hander Matt Ginter to Charlotte, and will call up infielder/outfielder Willie Harris before Friday's game against the crosstown rival Cubs.

Alomar has been nursing a sore right shoulder the past few days, and there was talk earlier in the week of putting him on the DL. But tests didn't show anything, and he was in the starting lineup Wednesday night for the first time since Thursday.

He went 0-for-3, dropping his average to .284.

Paul was hitting .243 with 10 RBI in 44 games in Charlotte. He's spent parts of the past three seasons with Chicago, hitting .268 with four homers and 27 RBI.

Ginter is 0-0 with a 2.45 ERA in nine games. But with three interleague series at NL parks in the next weeks, the White Sox are looking to boost their offense. Harris is hitting .295 with four homers and 21 RBI, and his 23 stolen bases lead the International League.

"He gives us speed off the bench in case we want to do some things,'' manager Jerry Manuel said. "He gives us some flexibility.''

I am looking forward to seeing how Harris does. I think he can be a good leadoff hitter someday, and he also has some pop in his bat.
