Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Former Detroit Pistons forward Bill Laimbeer is expected to take over the head coaching duties of the WNBA's Detroit Shock next week.
According to a report in the Detroit Free Press, Laimbeer will replace Greg Wilson following the team's return from a four-game road trip.
The Shock, who are now 0-8 on the young season, play games at Portland and Washington before hosting Orlando next Friday. The 45-year-old Laimbeer should be on the sidelines for Friday's contest.
Laimbeer is presently in his first year as a special consultant with the Shock. His duties include assisting with marketing and being a sounding board for the coaching staff.
Laimbeer enjoyed a solid 13-year career in the NBA, helping the Pistons earn back-to-back NBA championships in 1989 and '90. Earning "Bad Boy" status for his aggressive play along with teammates Rick Mahorn and Dennis Rodman, Laimbeer was a four-time All-Star and is the all-time leading rebounder in Pistons' history.
