Pitching. With a rare exception, teams that get great pitching consistently win.
Texas is an example of a team built around hitting that sucks.
I'd take 12 pitchers with ERAs under 4 and 13 batters around .250 over 12 pitchers with ERAs under 5 and 13 batters around .280 any day. Good pitching shuts down good hitting.

I would build a team around decent pitching and decent hitting. The Reds have proved you need both.

I think it depends on your ballpark. Comerica I would say Pitching, Defense, Speed, then hitting. Coors I would say hitting, defense, speed, pitching. If that makes sense....But yes pitching is most important.

i would get veteran pitching and hitting but i would overpay for it that has good d but no bats. and the pitching would be all young and inconsistent. then.... oh wait thats a real team:biggrin:

Pitching. Hall of Fame pitchers (namely The Big Train) Could win quite a few games no mateer how bad the hitters or team were.

great pitching as a base with decent hitting. The Cubs of last year can tell ya all about good hitting with good pitching.

You dont need good hitters to have a good pitching staff!!!!!

id make sure i have 2-3 very good starters, a good closer, a lefty and a righty setup guy, 2 power bats, a good leadoff hitter, and a solid bench:biggrin:
It has to alway start with good pitching and with a few good hitters and rest will take cure of it's safe.

P-I-T-C-H-I-N-G. Look at the D'backs. The best 1-2 in the game and they win a World Series with it. Sure their bats r good but pitching is the key to great ballclubs. If ur pitching staff gives up 5 or more runs a day no matter how god ur hitting is it can't produce 5+ runs every day! P-I-T-C-H-I-N-G.
