The Oakland Athletics completed a three-game sweep in the ballpark where they couldn't win during the 1990 World Series, beating the Cincinnati Reds 5-1 Sunday.

The resurgent A's have won seven in a row and 15 of their last 16, moving a season-high 12 games over .500. They've been the major leagues' hottest team in June, going 18-3.

The A's pitchers have led their rebound from a 10-game deficit on May 8 to a contending spot in the AL West. Mulder and left-hander Barry Zito have gone unbeaten in 10 June starts.

Oakland also has taken advantage of the National League along the way, going 14-1 in interleague play. The A's have won 22 of their last 24 games overall against the NL. Oakland is 8-1 on its longest trip of season _ 13 games. Oakland improved its all-time mark in interleague play to a league-best 64-37. It ends with four games against the first-place Mariners.

It is true that the Mariners are considerably off their 2001 pace. But then, nobody else is on their 2001 pace, either. Through 72 games, these Mariners are 45-27. Last year, they were 54-18 at this point. Of course last year, they had an 18.5-game lead in the American League West at this juncture. This time around, the Anaheim Angels are only two games back and the Oakland Athletics only three.

Mondays game starters;
Lidle (1-6), 5.88 vs Garcia (10-4), 3.02

The A's had a very strong team in 1990 with Welch and Stewart on the mound.

Do you beleive this?
10-0 A's lead in the 3rd inning.

They scored 3 runs in the 1st and 7 in the 3rd.
If not for a great catch by Ichiro bouncing off the right field wall it could be alot worse.

Mariner fans had to like the matchup, Garcia against the struggling Lidle, but who could have imagined Freddie getting shelled like this?

4th inning
Ryan Franklin releives Freddie.
Eric Chavez golfs one off the plate and launches his 19th homerun over the center field wall. Greg Myers has a 2 run blast.

Mariners are nowhere near as good as last year. The Padres took 2 out of 3!

SEATTLE (Ticker) -- Tim Hudson looks to continue his resurgence and the Oakland Athletics try to inch closer to first place in the American League West when they continue their series with the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday.
Hudson (5-6, 3.73 ERA) is 2-0 in his last six outings with a 2.95 ERA. He had a career-high four-game losing streak from May 4-19, but has allowed just 13 earned runs in his last 39 2/3 innings and Oakland is 5-1 in those outings.
Over his last two starts, Hudson has displayed the form from his first three seasons. He limited Pittsburgh to two runs and five hits in eight innings on Thursday.
In three starts this year against the Mariners, Hudson is 1-1 with a 3.26 ERA. Lifetime against Seattle, he is 6-3 with a 3.89 ERA in 12 starts.
The A's stretched their winning streak to eight games with Monday's 13-2 win. Oakland moved one-half game in front of Anaheim and within two of Seattle.

Soriano pitched well against Oakland on June 4, allowing two runs in seven innings, but did not figure in the decision in a 3-2 loss.

Barry Zito looks to win his 10th consecutive decision as the Oakland Athletics try to gain a split of their big series against the Seattle Mariners on Thursday.

Zito (10-2, 3.07) is 9-0 in 10 starts since a loss to the New York Yankees on April 30.

The Mariners are 7-5 against the A's this year and are tied with the Los Angeles Dodgers for the best record in baseball.
