He's now batting .277 - Hargrove has been putting him in the outfield alot lately, for Chris Singleton, who's been struggling, and in right field now, with Jeff Conine (1st base) on the DL, and Jay Gibbons, who usually plays right, playing 1st base. The O's batting coach, Terry Crowley, has been working with him, and he's become very, very hot with his bat.

Maryland Man may be able to elaborate. He's got more access to local Baltimore news.

MM, over to you....

Well, Nanner pretty much covered all the bases. Basically, he has played with 6 teams in the past 4 years. This is not because he isn't talented, or else he would have been released eventually, especially with his minimal contract. However, his approach to hitting frustrated hitting coaches-- he would always try to hit for power, and instead of coming up with home runs, he would come up with nothing. Terry Crowley was aware of this problem when the Orioles acquired him at the beginning of this season, and he has worked with Matthews to allow him to use his full potential as a hitter, which does not involve many homers. In 57 games this season, he is already just 1 double short of matching his total from last season. His batting average is 50 points higher than it was last year. His OBP is 20 points higher.

In short, a good hitting coach can make a world of difference!

Okay, I was wrong. But so are you!

According to ESPN.com, Gary has only played for 5 major league teams in his career. Those teams are the Padres, Cubs, Pirates, Mets, and Orioles.

I know my mistake just came from reading his chart wrong. It is possible that the Mets broadcasters got that 7th team statistic by counting all the organizations he has played for in his career, both major league and minor leagues.
