View Full Version : Holy **** ... Expos acquire Bartolo Colon

Personally, I'm thrilled the Expos landed Colon.

Damn, think of Vazquez and Colon 1-2. And Ohka has an ERA near 3. Zach Day (just called up from AAA) is 3-1. Go Montreal!

-----------------
Expos made a blockbuster move on Thursday by acquiring Indians ace Bartolo Colon to play for the present.

Montreal gives up first baseman Lee Stevens, top prospect Brandon Phillips, lefthanded prospect Cliff Lee, and outfielding prospect Grady Sizemore.

The Expos get the right-handed Colon, a player to be named, and cash considerations

Just found out ten minutes ago! :uhoh: Good move for Expos!

It sure is.

IMO, the Expos got him dirt cheap. Until Phillips, Lee, and Sizemore have sucess at AA at least (Phillips has, Lee unsure of, Sizemore hasn't played AA I think), they are prospects that may never pan out.

Getting Colon, a PTBNL, and $$$ (which the Expos need) for 3 prospects and a player hitting .180 is a great trade for Montreal.

This trade rocks.

I'm just glad to see the Expos acquiring big time talent instead of trading it all away.

I think that trade is really good for Expos since that Met Killer, Lee Stevens is playing in AL! ;) Just kidding but I mean that trade is very good for Expos.

OMG how the heck are the Indians nuts. Well Shawn the Indians give up a huge part of their pitching staff a good pitcher and he throws hard but then when you really look at the trade it seems even maybe it is:hmm: this is one of those trades that your just going to see what happens in the future:hmm: :freak: :fro:

YAY EXPOS!!!!! Colon out of AL!!!!!

I'm so happy for them! AND, now that the Indians got a 1st baseman, THOME might come cheaper! He did a 20 minute interview on Boston Sports radio today, talking about how great Boston was.

I seriously doubt that Thome will come any cheaper because of this. I still think that the Indians will make every attempt to resign him. I also am not sure that the Red Sox will sign him for the same reasons that I do not think they should go after Delgado.

Also, the Indians did not get a first baseman in this trade. They got Lee Stevens.

What on earth do Thome and Delgado have in common? Thome would be a rent a player for a few months, where Carlos has a MONSTER contract coming. Thome makes much more sense.

Also, I believe Montreal will trade Colon away before the deadline.

what they have in common is that they are the top two first baseman in all of baseball. That means big money no matter how you spell it. I will actually be quite surprised if the Indians move Thome.

Delgado has big money coming, if a team picks up Thome, they only have to pay this year, HUGE difference. It may not be the Sox, but Thome is leaving Cleveland.

I don't even like the Indians, but I'm with Shawn on this one. This trade is not good for Cleveland. They can't replace a starter of Colon's caliber. Lee Stevens for Jim Thome is not an acceptable trade off, either. What happened to all that money those consecutive sellouts produced? So much for the new ballpark theory. Obviously, Cleveland's ownership has thrown in the towel.

What does this mean for the Expos, anyway? Colon for three months, four if they can play in October? Then off to the dispersal draft? Even if Colon led the Expos to the World Series, they still go bye-bye November 1. (If Colon's a free agent at the end of the year, the deal would baffle me even more.)

Btw, how can the cash strapped Expos send the Tribe MONEY???? Where on Earth did the cash come from? Why would they spend money on a franchise they intend to implode? This smells a little like insider trading to me or, at least, money laundering. Selig sends his Cleveland pals MLB money via Montreal.

If this deal somehow saved the Expos or helped the Indians, I could see it. However, I'm not sure what this does for either team other than get Colon's salary off of Cleveland's books.

That's all Cleveland wanted, to dump salary. They've made it quite public that they're looking to rebuild.

Colon has one year left, as the Expos have one year left. Makes perfect sense for Spos.

Like I said, I have been following the Indians for a very long time, and I do not believe that Thome will be traded. Thome is one of the best values for your money in all of baseball right now. Would the Sox be willing to trade what it would take to get thome if he was just going to walk at the end of the season?

considering that Colon makes $2.5 million and will be eligible for free agency at the end of this season, this is hardly a salary dump.

Oh my god the Indians are turning into the Padres. Its scary they are both trading their better players for 20 yar old kids that havent even actually proved themselves barely at major league level. I mean come on....this trade is good for the Expos but i dont like it. They might start winning

umm.. don't you mean the expos might keep on winning?

My 2 cents.................

I actually think this is a GREAT trade for the Spos and horrible for the Tribe...I pretty much agree with Shawn and Brian with everything they have had to say on this....
I'm not so sure that Colon will be gone after this year....Unless of course there is definite contraction......If they move to DC or wherever, I actually expect Colon to stay with the team...I would be shocked to see the Spos trade him by the deadline...They are in a pennant race and have as good of a chance as anyone.....
As for Colon, he was signed through this season, with the Indians holding a $6 million club option for 2003. Now, the Expos hold that option - provided baseball doesn't fold them.
$6 million for a quality #1 starter is a bargain and as I said, I expect the Spos to keep him, barring conraction....

As a Met fan I hate this trade as it just make the Expos that much better:ohno:

It's a very questionable move on the Indians behalf. They are rebuilding, but Colon isn't a guy you trade. He's young (29), has a great arm, and is very cheap compared to other aces ($4.5M this season, $6M team option next season). He's a guy you want to build your new rotation around. But, the Indians did get some very good prospects. Phillips is the best shortstop prospect in all of baseball, Lee is arguably one of the top left-handed starters in the upper levels of the minors, and Sizemore is a solid outfielder.

The Indains need to bring back Cory Snyder.

How does Colon feel about getting shipped to Montreal? I hear players hate it there. With Canadian taxes, Colon's salary just dropped by about 20%.

Bring Thome to Boston, baby!!

Very Good Trade for the Expos.

I realy think that Clevland will regreat for making it.
