and they are both HOF'ers too.....whaddya know. Molitor helped the Blue Jays a lot in a way that Carlos Delgado never could

Molitor is a great example of what you need to win championships..
He wasn't a power hitter and was only an average fielder. What he offered was brains, speed and great bat control.

He knew what to do and when. Sounds simple, but thats why the Delgados and Sosas sell tickets but don't get to wear rings too often on their own.

Molitor (and Yount) made the most of their considerable talents with a goal of winning games first...personal goals never seemed to interfere. I think thats why last years World Series was so compelling. Two teams intent on winning with a total absence of WWF mentality showboating and self idolation. Makes for great baseball...The Molitors and Younts are few and far between..

The word for guys like Delgado and Sosa would be ..........hmmm.. i guess i would call them flashy. They make a big show of hitting home runs and that may draw fans but Molitor and Yount are consistent. They are consistent deliverers and smart baseball players. They dont have rippling muscles or lightning speed but they have smarts control and hustle and thats what counts in the long run.

Molitor helped the Jays out in a lot of ways Delago can't, but Molitor had a lot more support, too.

Look at the Blue Jays' lineup. Only Hinske, Mondesi, and Stewart are worthy of starting every day. The rest are pretty bad.

You're right......Molitor had Joe Carter and Robbie Alomar....

Good point, Molitor was a hitting stud that was content being a cog in the machine in a team effort... Carter, Alomar, and many others made that team work..I love team ball. Single star squads are hard to watch and rarely win...
The Cubs this year have a decent starting staff and Sammy. The rest are one dimensional players, most past their prime. I enjoy watching a team manufacture runs more than waiting 9 innnings for 2 or 3 home runs...
As much as Im not a Yankee fan, they're one of the few teams putting the team before individual performances. They even have David Wells toning it down...You have to admire Jeter and Giambi virtually disappearing from the limelight while they head to yet another world series..
