Sandy Alomar Jr. will rejoin the Sox for Tuesday's series opener against the Tigers after participating in a rehabilitation assignment at Class AAA Charlotte. Alomar was recovering from an impingement in his right shoulder.
Josh Paul, who was batting .500 (10-for-20), was optioned back to Charlotte. Paul had a hit in all six games he started while Alomar was on the disabled list.
Mark Johnson, who is batting just .207, will remain on the roster.
"It boosts your confidence a little bit, just from the fact that they actually still believe in you,'' Johnson said. "Any time you're hitting [.207] you're concerned, but there's a lot more to catching than hitting.
