I'm pretty upset with how this team is playing. Last year it was bad, but this year it feels ten times worse. We have HOF caliber players in Piazza, Alomar, even Vaughn. Guys that are known for power like Burnitz, speedsters like Cedeno, and a whopping $102M payroll and little results.

I just need to vent. This team could be so good if they could get rolling all at once. I haven't given up compltely, but we're at the half way point and we're 11 and a half games behind. And I think we all know the wildcard is likely coming out of the NL West.

And I really miss Robin. Not just his bat (which is really cracking in the Bronx), but his humor and looseness. They way he was a center of calm in the middle of the storm. I think he could be a calming influence on this team.

I hear ya, Purva. I've been trying to put my finger on what it is about this year's team that makes me feel differently. I watch them and I just can't get excited..... and not just because they're losing. There doesn't seem to be any life to them.... any spark. I don't see any passion . Maybe that would come with wins, but I don't know. It's this intangible thing that I can't find from them. Maybe it's heart. *sigh* I don't know. I don't know if it's the clubhouse mix, or if I'm really buying into all that stuff that the papers are trying to generate about there being rifts and tears in the relationships between teammates.

I miss Robin too. And I don't think the effect his presence had on this team can be minimized.

Well, we'll see what happens the rest of the season. Maybe in September we'll all be saying, "Ahhhh!!! Knew it was there all the time!!!"

It's hard to look as if you have heart when you're losing. Especially when you expected to win. Remember, we all thought the 2000 team had heart, and it was virtually the same team in 2001 who people said didn't have heart. The difference? The 2000 team won games and the 2001 team did not.

The "heart" situation is the reason why I think they'd be absolutely nuts to trade Leiter. The guy's all heart, and trading him would rip a hole in the team. I notice that BV and Mike are talking publicly about how much he means to them. It's also why I was not surprised to hear Ed Coleman last night talking about how much Tank meant to the Mets.

*crosses fingers that Al retires a Met*

I guess "heart" isn't exactly the word I wanted to use. I'm searching .... searching.... I think "spark" is more what I meant. They seem lifeless and flat. I know losing can probably do that to a team, and like you said, Julie, a team that everyone expected to be so good. Maybe it's they're in a state of shock that they're not as good as they expected to be. I can only bring up the example of my other favorite team, the O's. There you have a team where no one expected them to be any good. Yet they go out there and battle, and show some life, and okay, here's a word... "spunk". I've only gotten to see them a few times on TV, but when I do see them, even if they've lost the game before, they come right back and fight. I don't see any fight in the Mets. Granted, that's strictly an observation from somebody sitting back and looking at it from afar. I'm not in the clubhouse, I'm not at team meetings.... but I do think it's something that you see if it's there.

Does that make sense?

I agree, Julie, trading Al would be a disaster.

Ya know what I think it is.... DRIVE

Last night they were showing the Mets in the dugout... not one of them has emotion on there face...

Granted it sucks when your losing and have been in a downward spiral since opening day, but it's in there eyes.... It feels like there just waiting for something to happen instead of making it happen.... Look at Alomar the ball goes thru his legs!! THROUGH HIS LEGS THIS IS A GOLD GLOVE INFIELDER!!! how many times have we seen it go through his damn legs!!?? and what does he do?? make a face???:uhoh: NO get mad damit!!! show some sign of life in there!!! Cedeno misses a fly ball off his glove??? be pissed!!! Look at Burnitz he was dieing at bat everytime he popped up or struck out you could see the anger he was having he would throw his arms up, throw the bat down... I'm sick of hearing that these players are going to come around... well they better come around NOW!! they need to have a great second half of a season! I wish I could scream at all of them and say...

THINGS JUST DONT HAPPEN GET OUT THERE AND MAKE THEM HAPPEN!!!!!

wow thanks I needed that!

We should all scream at once:

SNAP OUT OF IT!!!!! FIGHT, FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!

By the way, Purva, thanks for starting this thread..... venting is good.

Pitiful is a good and clean word to explane it lol Venting is always good thats why you never see PP angry. Everytime I see that in the Dugout they look dead! We need one of them to get up once and a while and just start going nuts in there or do what Howard Johonson and and I think it was Knight. You know light Mo's foot on fire with the gum and matches thing. :hmm:

Wow. Kathleen. :uhoh: Did you just have a talk with Howie Rose? He just said, "They need to get angry. They haven't gotten angry." (Or words to that effect.) But, it was exactly what you were talking about! :uhoh:

I bow to you, oh mighty sage.

HA YOU THINK THATS DISAPPOINTING LOOK AT THE RANGERS! A-ROD PUDGE PALMEIRO are just a few of their stars yet they still hang around in the .450's partly cloudy and chances of light drizzles!
