7-5!!!! :jump: :jump: :clap1:

Well, with a win tonight, they can end the first half of the season one under .500. I was sorta hoping they'd be at .500 for the first half, but they've been battling, and if they're battling, that makes me happy anyway. They're a scrappy team!

BJ came in and pitched really well, GOOD FOR HIM!! :clap1: , Rick Bauer and Yorkis Perez did well, which can only add to their confidence, and Willis Roberts and Jorge Julio and Buddy Groom got a little rest!

Well done, guys!!!! :clap1: :clap1: :clap1:

Mora provides heroics for O's

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Orioles finally ended the Rangers' recent dominance, scoring late to take a 7-5 win Saturday night. The victory ended the Rangers' eight-game win streak over the Birds, including the past seven games between the teams in 2001.

Melvin Mora broke a 4-4 tie by driving in two runs with a ninth-inning triple off Colby Lewis. Rick Bauer (4-4), who had come on in the eighth inning, picked up the win. Yorkis Perez struck out Rangers pinch-hitter Herbert Perry to end the game and earn just his second Major League save and his first since 1995 with the Marlins.

Early on, the game looked all Orioles, as Baltimore tallied four runs in the first three innings and Sidney Ponson looked dominant in mowing down the first eight Rangers batters.

Mike Hargrove said, "A four-run lead early in the ballgame against the Rangers is not always a good thing. They always come back at you."

That's exactly what the Rangers did. Carl Everett homered and Texas rallied for two more runs in the fourth inning and finally tied the score in the sixth inning.

The Orioles chased Rangers starter Dave Burba after just four innings -- but more than 100 pitches. Rangers reliever Todd Van Poppel came on to slam the door, retiring nine straight batters on 35 pitches in the fifth-seventh innings.

The Orioles' relievers performed just as well. B.J. Ryan relieved Ponson in the sixth after Ivan Rodriguez's sac fly tied the score. Ryan and Bauer retired the next seven Rangers hitters on just 29 pitches.

Hargrove was impressed with both, saying, "B.J. had as good of stuff as he's had all year. Bauer came in and did a pretty good job with the meat of their order."

The rally finally came in the ninth, as Geronimo Gil singled and Mike Bordick was hit by a pitch ( ) before Mora tripled. Mora later scored on Brian Roberts' sac fly.

Closer Jorge Julio was unavailable because he threw too many pitches Friday, which is why Bauer started the ninth. He walked the first two batters, then allowed only a run-scoring single. This set the stage for Yorkis Perez's strikeout to end the game.

Perez was elated, saying, "I thank the manager for giving me a chance. It's only my second save, so I'm very happy. My team needed this game."

The win was the Orioles' third on their six-game road swing through the AL West assures them at least a .500 trip. The win also helped ease the frustration of losing eight consecutive games to the cellar-dwelling Rangers.

Hargrove spoke before the game about the streak.

"Texas has a better offensive lineup, one through nine," he said. "No lead is ever really safe at the Ballpark in Arlington."

On Saturday, a three-run lead in the ninth was safe enough.

Notes:

Tony Batista, Baltimore's only All-Star, ended his hitting streak at seven games with an 0-for-5 night. In his past eight games, he hit .353. ... Mike Bordick also ended his hitting streak at seven games, going 0-for-3 Saturday. He went into play Saturday leading all AL shortstops with a .997 fielding percentage and has committed only one error so far this season. :lust:

Hargrove also set his post-All-Star rotation. Scott Erickson will start at home Thursday against Oakland, followed by Jason Johnson on Friday, Travis Driskill on Saturday and on Sunday. Rodrigo Lopez will start the series opener against Seattle on July 15.

On the injury front, Marty Cordova is still bothered by pain in his heel and started at DH for the 10th consecutive game.

Also, Hargrove said Jeff Conine "is getting better every day." Hargrove doubted that Conine would be activated for Sunday's game but expects him to be ready to play Thursday.

The news about Chris Richard was not as good. A sore shoulder has slowed his progress at the team's minor league facility in Sarasota, Fla., and Hargrove says Richard is being re-evaluated.

Single-A Delmarva first baseman Adam Manley was named South Atlantic League Batter of the Week for the week ending July 4. He hit .522 (12-for-23) with two triples, a home run and six RBIs in seven games.
