Free Agent Pickups

I have the opportunity to pick up Jeff Zimmerman when he returns to the Majors. Looking at his stats last year and barring any other injuries I thought he might be a good closer to have on the back burner especially after the erratic Irabu. If I pick him up I would have to drop one of the following: Kevin Mench, Ricky Gutierrez, Dmitri Young, Kelvim Escobar, Wendell Magee, or Paul Byrd. And I'm not sure who to part with. It's true that Mench has cooled down, Gutierrez doesn't offer many good stat numbers, Dmitri Young has that recurring hernia, Magee has cooled off plenty, Byrd seems to be too inconsistent even with his eleven wins and Escobar might be going to Anaheim where he'll be a setup man for Percival but I need a little advice on this.

Zimmerman is due back, but will join the bullpen. Don't fret, he will be closing in no time.

There have been many inquiries to Percivals setup man (possibly Alfonseca), so leave Kelvim be for now.

Paul Byrd is a keeper.

Depending on depth in certain positions, all these players could go (Dimetri, Gutieras, McGee).

I own D.Young and have grown tired of his hernia. Rumor is the Tigers will trade him soon, but its hard to trade an injured player.
