Basketball rebound prompts W. Mifflin shooting

Thursday, July 11, 2002

By Jonathan Silver, Post-Gazette staff writer

West Mifflin police today obtained a warrant for a 19 year old who allegedly shot a man in the chest at a basketball court in the Mon-View Heights housing complex.

Police are seeking Daymond "Day-Day" Wiggins of Mon-View Heights on charges of attempted homicide and aggravated assault, as well as weapons violations.

Police Chief Frank Diener said Wiggins got into an argument shortly before 6 p.m. yesterday with Andre Robinson, 27, after Robinson grabbed a rebound during a basketball game.

When Wiggins mentioned getting a gun, Robinson told him to stop such talk and act like a man, Diener said. Wiggins walked away, went behind a tree and returned to pull up his shirt and display a gun.

"The victim just tells him, 'Stop that with that gun and act like a man,' " Diener said. In response, Wiggins ran up to Robinson, shot him at point-blank range and ran away, the chief added.

Robinson was flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

Anyone with information about Wiggins is asked to call the West Mifflin police at 412-461-3125.

Dustin, I probably couldn't even BEAT myself one on one....

My basketball skills eroded completely in about 10th grade... After that, I would have fouled out of every game I played after that.

Although, I did beat Cyn....;)

West Mifflin, where this happened, is only about an hour or so from here... pretty messed up stuff.
