News
In two separate deals on Thursday, Florida dealt pitcher Ryan Dempster and outfielder Cliff Floyd. Dempster goes to the Reds for outfielder Juan Encarnacion, infielder Wilton Guerrero and minor league left-hander Ryan Snare. As expected, Floyd heads back to Montreal along with RHP prospect Cladio Vargas in exhange for Graeme Lloyd, infielder Mike Mordecai, prospect Justin Wayne, and a player to be named.

The move back to Montreal bodes poorly for Floyd, who has been vocal in his opposition to playing on artificial turf. The move to Exhibition Stadium may mean that Floyd will miss more playing time than he would on natural grass. Floyd was heading for offseason free agency, and Florida was not expected to be a contendor for his services in 2003. The Reds will waste no time in getting Dempster into their rotation. He is expected to start on Friday against Houston, while Joey Hamilton moves to the bullpen.

Marlins didn't make out too bad. They got a guy in Encarnacion, that a lot of contenders were looking to add, and should fit in real nice their. Graeme Lloyd is a good, veteran releiver, and several good minor league pitchers were involved, Ryan Snare, Justin Wayne, and Josh Karp(Karp-Marlin. . .get it;) ).
