New to the Capital City Bombers this season: Ace the Eagle. Ace made a grand entrance between games of a Memorial Day Weekend doubleheader—he arrived on the field via helicopter! From the moment of his exciting debut, Ace was immediately accepted as a new member of the Bomberball Family. Since the word “Ace” symbolizes the best among pitchers and the best among pilots, it seemed the perfect fit for a team that brings baseball and aviation together!

JJ Jammer
He was born in 1994, and will be celebrating his 10th birthday this year. Prior to the 2000 season, JJ was sent to an exclusive mascot resort where he put on some weight, and found a permanent smile. JJ entertains fans at Diethrick Park and all over Chautauqua County all year long.

Reading Phillies
The Reading Phillies Mascot Band offers up a truly unique musical experience. Just as the name implies, this group features full-fledged Reading Phillies Mascots actually playing and singing great music. The band members are Quack the Rubber Ducky on lead vocals and guitar, Bucky the Beaver on bass, Change-Up the Turtle on percussion, and Screwball bringing it all together on the drums – you really have to see it to believe it! The band’s musical repertoire usually includes some reggae and hip-hop mixed with hard driving rock-n-roll.

The Reading Phillies Mascot Band came to be during the 2002 Reading Phillies season. They played 13 gigs last year, including 10 at their home base of FirstEnergy Stadium, and an on-field show at Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia that resulted in an ESPN TV appearance.

Some people think there is some kind of trick to this band, but when you see them in person, you will realize that this is no smoke and mirrors show. It’s giant, lovable mascots playing and singing great tunes – and it’s fun! The music is surprisingly well presented and the mascots are hilarious.

Lexington Legends
Big L & Pee Wee
Baseball has always been in the blood of Big L. After a legendary amateur career in Central Kentucky, Big L began his pursuit of a professional career. His hard work paid off when he received a chance to play Major League Baseball with the Houston Astros. Big L was one of the most feared hitters in all of Major League Baseball while playing for Houston.

After his playing days, the Astros helped Big L realize another dream by bringing professional baseball back to the Bluegrass.

Today you can find the Original Lexington Legend hamming it up in front of the crowd at Applebee’s Park with his good friend Pee Wee, who was acquired by the Legends at the 1999 Baseball Winter Meetings.

Tucson Sidewinders
Who is the popular, jolly, rotund, and smiley mascot of the Tucson Sidewinders, who is all about family fun at the ballpark? The answer: “Sandy Sidewinder.”

“Sandy Sidewinder” was born into the Arizona Diamondback family in 1998 when the 2001 World Series Champions joined Major League Baseball.

“Sandy Sidewinder” is popular with kids “of all ages,” and slithers through Tucson Electric Park, mingling with the fans during Sidewinders home games.

“Sandy Sidewinder” is also an ambassador to the Southern Arizona community. “Sandy” is actively involved in local events such as the world-famous Tucson Rodeo Parade and public appearances during the holidays.

Thousands have enjoyed being photographed with “Sandy Sidewinder,” who gladly signs autographs for fans.

When not at the ballpark, “Sandy Sidewinder” resides deep in the sands of the Tucson desert. “Sandy” also enjoys dancing and hanging out with her favorite friends Baxter the Bobcat and REGGY!

In the short five years that “Sandy Sidewinder” has been around, she has entertained over 1.5 million fans, and hopes to entertain millions more!

Visalia Oaks
Chatter is the lovable oversized squirrel that has spent the last 151 years making visitors to Recreation Park happy. (Oversized squirrels tend to live forever.) Of course, in 1852 the area bounded by Giddings, Murray, Jacob and Center was not known as Rec Park. But soon after the city was founded (also in 1852) spectator events began to take place on the site.

At first it was rodeos. Chatter was part of the suicide squad that corralled angry bulls when it was time for them to leave the arena.

By the 1890s baseball was played at Recreation Park. Chatter loved to watch the games, and children loved to play with the six-foot tall furry friend.

In 1946 the California League came to Visalia and Chatter applied for a job with a real professional baseball team. Chatter was welcome to come into the games for free and entertain fans, but was never paid by the club. Mostly, this was because the teams were called other names like the Cubs, White Sox and Mets. Chatter loved the job, but without wages, he couldn’t afford to spend all of his time at baseball games. A squirrel’s got to eat, you know.

He found other ways to survive. Mostly, Chatter would sell surplus walnut to people passing by the park.

But in 1977, Chatter got his big chance. The team changed its name from the Mets to the Oaks. How perfect: A squirrel as the mascot for a team named after a tree!

Even though Chatter remains six-feet tall his appearance has changed many times over the past 25 years. Chatter loves card games and foot races but is not very good at either one. It is the love of baseball that keeps him going.

Brooklyn Cyclones
Sandy is a fun-loving Seagull who hangs out at KeySpan Park entertaining Cyclone fans. He loves to meet new people, help with the between inning contests and lead the fans in cheering on the Cyclones.

So how did Sandy get to be the Cyclones mascot?

Well, Sandy comes from a seagull family that has always loved baseball. Sandy’s grandfather grew up on the streets of Brooklyn in the 1950’s. He lived in a small nest on Flatbush Avenue next door to Ebbets Field and every weekend, he would fly out to Coney Island to hang out on the beach and ride the Cyclone. On game nights, he would fly over to the ballpark and watch the great Brooklyn Dodgers teams, snacking on the ballpark leftovers. Grandpa seagull was sad when the Dodgers left Brooklyn. He eventually moved his family to Queens and became a Mets fan. He found a nice nest at the 7 train station and would take his son, Sandy’s father, to Mets games all the time. What did not change were the weekend plans, which always included a visit to Coney Island. When Sandy’s dad was old enough to move out on his own, he found a nest on top of the Parachute Jump tower.

Sandy was born in 1999, around the same time the plans were being made to bring baseball back to Brooklyn. One day, while the ballpark was being built, Sandy fell out of the family’s Parachute Jump tower nest. The construction workers nursed him back to health and let him hang around and be their mascot. When the ballpark was ready for baseball, Sandy was the obvious choice to become the Cyclones team mascot. With his inspired leadership, and cheerleading, he helped lead them to their first championship season.

The Story of How Buster Came to Lakewood
Buster is not only a huge baseball fan, but the biggest BlueClaws fan of all. His goal at games is to lead the crowds in their excitement for BlueClaws baseball and to make sure those crowds have fun. The only thing he may love as much as baseball is the BlueClaw crab.

As a child, his family and friends told him stories of crabbing in Barnegat Bay at the Jersey Shore on those beautiful, lazy summer days many years ago. Naturally, as Buster grew up---and out, his love of BlueClaw crabs grew as well.

So one day, when he became old enough, Buster decided to drive to New Jersey from his home in Clearwater, FL to find what had to be the best crabbing in the world. Buster had heard many stories about Philly cheesesteaks, New York pizzas and Boardwalk sausage and pepper sandwiches. But nothing was more exciting than the hope of finding the BlueClaw crabs at the Jersey Shore. He put on his favorite yellow cap and boots, waved goodbye to his family and friends and was on his way.

Near the end of his long journey from Florida, as he was driving down the Garden State Parkway in his old, blue pickup truck, Buster noticed a billboard…The BlueClaws Are Here! Then he heard several radio stations announcing that the BlueClaws are in Lakewood, NJ. He could not believe his ears!

As he continued on his way, he came upon signs directing traffic to GPU Energy Park, home of the Lakewood BlueClaws. Excited, he took the next exit off the Parkway and found his way to what was not only the home of the BlueClaws, but a baseball park---the two things Buster loved more than anything in the world.

Not believing his eyes, Buster drove up and quickly met the front office staff, trying to convince anyone who would listen that there was no one on the planet who loved BlueClaws and baseball more than him.

He wanted to work for the team, practice with the players, help the coaches and maybe someday become an actual BlueClaws player. He knew it would take practice, but Buster loves a challenge. He also promised to help anyone who needed his assistance.

Everyone was a bit skeptical, until Buster said he also would be in charge of all kid’s birthday parties, would visit all the schools, would help the children learn to read and, most of all, would be in charge of making fans of all ages laugh and have a fun time at the park, where his new friends would be playing baseball. He said he was ready to do anything and everything to make sure the BlueClaws and their fans enjoy themselves---win or lose.

After seeing Buster’s exuberance and energy, the front office soon realized that he was a kid at heart---ready to play and have fun at the drop of a hat. So they called the players and spoke to some children. The players and kids also could see that Buster was a prankster and a joker, a big guy who loved to bring smiles and laughter to everyone he met. And after much discussion, everyone decided it would be fun to have Buster join the baseball family and live and play at the park for as long as he would like.

Buster was so happy, because he could now live his dream by being with the BlueClaws and eat hot dogs and cracker jacks every day.

With a big smile on his face, Buster stood on the concourse of the brand-new ballpark and smelled the freshly cut grass, watched the gigantic scoreboard in left field and imagined what it was going to be like when all the fans arrived for the first time. He just knew they would say, “Wow, what a wonderful place for the BlueClaws to play baseball!”And Buster also knew one other thing---he had found his true home!
