The Chicago Tribune reports that GM Jim Hendry denies reports that P Kerry Wood might work as closer next season

That would be really stupid if it happens. Why waste a starter to close? You know you can win when Wood is out there. I doubt that will happen.

yeah, but kerry wood is a great starter... starters are far more valuable than closers, i feel anyway...sure they close out games, but starters keep you in the game...without a starter the closer cant do anything

Yes, but only when they can't handle the grind of being a starter or if they can't cut it as a starter.

Does he have some type of injury that would prevent him from working a lot of innings?

Other than that scenario I cant fathom him being a closer...

If they can pick up a great free agent starter, I could envision an effective pitcher like Wood as a closer.

Of course, the question is are there any great ones left available for cheap?

he wont be a closer any time soon. But many experts see it as John smoltz redux.

and james, he does have the arm problems. thats pretty much well known.

When looking at the importance of starters versus relievers just remember this: which is more valuable, 210 innings or 70 innings?
