Antonio Alfonseca Scouting Report!
Feb 25, 2002 News: Florida Marlins closer Antonio Alfonseca arrived in camp Sunday after being delayed in the Dominican Republic by a civil suit that was ultimately dropped. A woman had filed suit alleging that Alfonseca inappropriately touched her and sought $187,500 in damages. He never faced any criminal charges. Alfonseca passed the team physical and hopes his back is ready for the start of the season. He had surgery to repair a herniated disk in October and lost 25 pounds this offseason. Manager Jeff Torborg doesn't plan to use him in a Grapefruit League game until mid-March.
Views: Keep an eye on Braden Looper this spring. He'll have a chance to prove that he can be a closer and could plant a seed in Torborg's mind in case Alfonseca's back acts up. (Fanball.com)
