Unhappy Mark Quinn Scouting Report!

Mark Quinn was diagnosed with a cracked rib Monday and likely won't be ready for the start of the season, the Kansas City Star reported.

"It does look doubtful that he'd be ready by the end of spring training," general manager Allard Baird said. Quinn was expected to platoon in right field with newly acquired lefty Michael Tucker.

Baird said that Quinn, who had complained of back pain for the last few days, reported to camp with the problem.

"I think he was home and fell backward up against the edge of a chair," Baird said.

Quinn had participated in all the Royals' workouts until Monday when he reported more soreness. He was held out of practice and sent to have X-rays and an MRI.

Until the Royals consult with team physicians, Baird told the Star they won't be certain how long Quinn will be out of action.

"I'd say two to four weeks," Baird said. "He's not going to be able to run or throw or anything. Then he has to get in a spring-training (program)."
