Thanks for the link. I was one of the supporters of ballpark's renovation, but I got inside the place four or five years ago and it was in need of MAJOR work. It was closer to needing to be re-built than renovated. It's a shame they never kept the place up with the times.
I'm afraid it is doomed for wrecking ball. No one has come up with a combination of an idea and money that seems logical or profitable. Minor league baseball is a nice dream, but no one goes to watch the major leagues around here and, quite frankly, attendance at Michigan and Trumbull was pathetic for years. For about three years in the mid to late 90s, I had my own personal hot dog vendor during weekday night games. People loved the place, but not enough to fill up the place regularly.
I can't see minor league baseball being a long term solution. Even a single A team would need to upgrade the place. It would take millions. All the other plans for Tiger Stadium just don't have enough financial or civic support.
As sad as it is to see the place vacant, and I almost always pass it on the way to Comerica Park, I'd rather have it torn down then sitting around decaying. Detroit, unfortunately, has plenty of other buildings in that state.
