Padres swept by Cardinals
Padres swept by Cardinals in divisional playoffs
As the Padres look to eek out an N.L. West division title this week with a sub-.500 record, the team was informed today by major league baseball that they have been swept out of the first round of the playoffs by the St. Louis Cardinals, three games to none.
“We didn’t really see the point of delaying the inevitable,” said commissioner Bud Selig. “We don’t want any Cardinals players to get hurt playing those pointless games.”
The league record books will show that the Cardinals won Game 1 of the division series 9-1 behind strong pitching from Chris Carpenter and four RBIs from Albert Pujols. St. Louis took Game 2 by the score of 11-0 thanks to seven errors by the Padres. Game 3 went to the Cardinals 7-1, as the Padres allowed five runs to score by wild pitches and passed balls.
“It’s disappointing to get knocked out of the playoffs, but I can’t say it’s surprising,” said Padres manager Bruce Bochy. “God knows, baseball didn’t want a team as terrible as we are tarnishing the good name of the major league playoffs. At least this way it will be a little less embarrassing for us since our complete destruction at the hands of the Cardinals won’t be played out on national television. And heck, the fact that we were only outscored 27-2 in the three games is much better than I would have expected had we actually played.”

I am guranteeing that it will be a Cardinals sweep in 3 games. I think it was a joke that the Padres are in the playoffs in the first place. God it was good to see them get theirs this afternoon.

What are you putting up as a gurantee?
Doesnt mean much unless you put something up...
Cards were on their way to winning game 1 easily but they managed to let it get very interesting as they blew an 8-0 lead and held on 8-5...
Padres showed some heart in this game....

Man I wish I can wager and gamble, but I am not making much at my job to be in that position. One day though, BG.

BG: I can do better. If the White Sox win it all, I will have a White Sox logo as my avatar and my sig line would be I LOVE THE WHITE SOX. I am so confident that the White Sox will still lose in the first round.

BG: I gotta give the White Sox credit as much as I hate to. They found a way to get the job done. They earned the sweep. With that said, Tim Wakefield said it best about how the White Sox caught the Red Sox at the wrong time and how they got all the breaks. I just wonder if it would be different if the Red Sox would have aligned the rotation to their liking like starting Schilling in Game 1 instead of Clement. With that said, I give the White Sox credit. I think whoever wins the Yankees/Angels series will beat the White Sox though.
The good thing about the White Sox winning is that baseball fans don't have to be subjected about the Red Sox/Yankees ALCS nonsense or how the Red Sox will try to win back-to-back. The stuff with the Red Sox on TV grew old on me in the last few years. It will be good to watch the other teams have a chance for a change. I think true baseball fans will find the Angels/White Sox or Yankees/White Sox to be entertaining and better than Yankees/Red Sox.

We didn't clinch our playoff spot until the final day of the regular season. We could not have aligned our rotation even if we wanted to do it.
Excuses are exuses. To put it plain and simple, the White Sox are the better team this year. Say what you want, but they invited the Red Sox into their house and beat them down and beat down the Red Sox and finished them off on their own turf. Not going to take jack away from the White Sox myself. They just flat out beat the Red Sox with superior starting pitching, bullpen, defense and hitting.
As for your close-mind view that baseball fan don't like seeing the Red Sox v.s the Yankees. Until you got some proof that general public can't stand this, I really don't think baseball fans find the match-up between these team boring and tiresome as you and a few other people do.
I like how you say true baseball fans.
As if people that enjoy the Red Sox v.s Yankees ALCS are not true baseball fans.
True baseball fans enjoy baseball in any form. Be it New York v.s Boston or another team v.s another team in ALCS.
