Brandon Phillips

There hasn't been any real news lately regarding Phillips' future or a long-term deal. He was the lone Reds player to get his contract renewed at the club's terms during Spring Training, but all signs point to positive feelings on both sides.

On the day of his renewal, Phillips made it clear he wanted to be a Red long-term, especially since his career took off in Cincinnati after fading in Cleveland. He reiterated that point earlier this month.

"I want to spend the rest of my career here," said Phillips, who leads Major League second basemen with 19 homers this season. "I want to step in where [Barry] Larkin left off. How Larkin was to this city, I want to be to this city. They opened their arms to me, opened the doors. They let me come over and play."
I was reading this and thought I should share. Krivsky is a not to make his contract extended. He has matured as a player since he came, though still growing. He is the defensive/offensive second basemen we need.

I agree. He and Harang are the only two right now that I would consider safe bets for the future. Harang has signed a deal. Now would be the time to sign Phillips as he sounds like he would give them a discount too to get the deal done. They have young guys they can bring up and build around them. It should be an exciting few years to be a Reds fan.

Norris Hopper looks like he may be a solid player in the future for Cinci

You Reds fans have to be happy with the Reds giving Phillips that new contract.
